Welcome to the Linn Area Mountain Bike Association – LAMBA web site.

In the fall of 2006, LAMBA was incorporated as a 501 (c) non-profit organization. LAMBA will work to build a membership that will cooperate with governments of Cedar Rapids and Linn County to build and maintain mountain biking trails on public property.

Rain and Beverly's Trails. Leave no trace.

Although Beverly Park is blessed with terrific drainage and no formal method of closing the trails, we ask all riders to use their judgement and not ride on slick trails too soon after rains. This is especially true of the open meadow south of the farm lane (Refuge Road). This hilly meadow (which overlooks Hwy 30) has a different soil and needs to dry much more before riding. So if your wheels are packing up and you are leaving tracks, stay off the trails and give them a few more hours to dry before riding. Thanks.

Get your children outdoors.

Getting and keeping trails for mountain biking takes a lot more than just riding and building trails. It is going to take another generation of people who enjoy our open spaces and like to ride their bikes there. Get your kids a bike that fits, teach them to ride and take them to a trail in the woods so they can see how fun it is. Better yet, take them with other kids their age. Help create the next citizens who will fight to preserve our wild places and keep them open for mountain biking.

Membership Drive - Join Now

Whether it's building more trails in new places, buying gas for power tools or influencing policy, LAMBA needs members and dues to be successful.

Things like insurance and renting port-o-johns are expensive, so do your part as a contributing member and help us get things done.

Join LAMBA and show your support of mountain biking in Cedar Rapids.

Attention East Side Mountain Bikers

Later this summer, LAMBA will begin talks with Linn County Conservation about the prospects for single track in county parks like Squaw Creek. On going maintenance issues take committed local riders who are willing and able to take care of things, so you need to join LAMBA and indicate an interest in supporting such a project. Be ready to form a working committee that LAMBA can support in moving ahead with this exciting possibility. Check the forum for making contacts.

Mission:
LAMBA is dedicated to promoting sustainable trail access for mountain/all-terrain bicyclists, and to maintaining the trails on which mountain bikers ride.  LAMBA supports the conservation of open spaces and is committed to educating mountain bicyclists to ride sensitively and responsibly in order to protect the natural environment and the experience of other trail users.  Toward these ends, LAMBA will work for:

Activities and Programs.
LAMBA will provide its members, friends, and the general public with opportunities to steward, care for, and recreate on Iowa’s open spaces.  We offer trail maintenance work days,  educational programs and family activities designed to promote the responsible use of public trails by mountain bikers.

Environmental Protection.
LAMBA will provide leadership in the protection and preservation of the environment by advocating the development of informed public policy and by encouraging the establishment and management of protected land and water areas within LAMBA’s geographical area.

Organization.
LAMBA will provide an organization of volunteers and professionals who will manage LAMBA programs, encourage public respect for the environment and mountain biking, offer LAMBA‘s expertise to others, and support individual contributions in realizing LAMBA’s goals.

Government Relations:
The city continues to work on a new policy for working with groups like us. Contact the Cedar Rapids City Council and express your support for local mountain biking and access to public land. Let people know that you, and mountain bikers in general, are willing to work for their sport. Updates will be posted as we learn more. This project was partially supported by a Hotel-Motel Tax Fund Grant from the City of Cedar Rapids.
